Registration of trademarks Iceland-The country is a signatory to the Madrid Protocol. Registration is required to acquire trademark protection. It can also be obtained by receiving enough public acknowledgement.

Requirements

A local agent must submit a trademark application to the Icelandic Patent Office (IPO). All you need is an unregistered power of attorney. A domestic registration is not required for foreign candidates.

Procedure

There is no search for previous trademarks throughout the application procedure; instead, there is a formal examination and an examination of distinctiveness. The entire process, from initial submission to registration, takes two to four months. Two months after the application’s publishing date is the opposition period.

Duration

In Iceland, a trademark registration is effective from the registration date for a period of ten years. Ten-year renewal periods are available for the registration.
