CZECH REPUBLIC

Registration of trademarks Czech Republic: The country is a signatory to both the Madrid Protocol and the Madrid Agreement. Registration is required to acquire trademark protection. It can also be obtained by receiving enough public acknowledgement.

Requirements

A local agent must submit a trademark application to the Patent Office. All you need is an unregistered power of attorney. International applicants must register domestically.

Procedure

There is no search for previous trademarks throughout the application procedure; instead, there is a formal examination and an examination of distinctiveness. Before the trademark authority issues an office action or registers a trademark, it takes about six to eight months. The trademark is published in the Czech Industrial Property Office’s weekly Official Journal prior to registration. Three months after the trademark application is published is the opposition period.

Duration

In the Czech Republic, a trademark registration is effective from the registration date for a period of ten years. Ten-year renewal periods are available for the registration.
