Big Moves in UAE IP! – New Trademark Fee Structure & Services Coming into Force
The UAE continues to position itself as a regional leader in innovation and intellectual property.
Under Cabinet Resolution No. (102) of 2025, the Ministry of Economy has announced new trademark fees and service reforms, effective 15 November 2025. This update marks a significant step toward a faster, more transparent, and digitally efficient IP environment — aligning the UAE with top global IP standards.
What’s Changing?
- New Fee Schedule: Official fees will now apply to appeals, oppositions, and post-registration amendments. Standardised charges are aimed at improving efficiency and reducing backlogs.
- Expedited Examination Service: A one-day fast-track examination option will be introduced — ideal for urgent product launch timelines.
- New IP Categories: New provisions for Geographical Indications (GIs) and conversion of national marks to Madrid registrations will support international expansion strategies.
- Support for SMEs & Inclusion: 50% fee reduction for entities under the National SME Programme, and full exemptions for people of determination.
What This Means for Businesses
- Larger trademark portfolios may see increased filing and maintenance costs.
- Startups and SMEs benefit from cost relief and faster processing.
- IP teams should review fee schedules and renewal planning before the new rules take effect.
The UAE’s steady evolution of its IP framework reinforces its goal of establishing a world-class innovation ecosystem and offering one of the most progressive IP environments in the GCC.
