Requirements

• A request for trademark registration
• The applicant’s name and address
• A list of the products and/or services;
• A copy of the trade mark
• Evidence that the required payments have been paid.

The laws of the United Kingdom do not now mandate the submission of a Power of Attorney together with a trademark application.

In most cases, the Priority Document does not need to be submitted.

Six months from the priority date is the deadline for submitting a trademark application in the UK asserting conventional priority.

Renewal

There is no formal grant fee that needs to be paid. A trademark registration is good for ten years after it is submitted. The registration is extendable for additional ten-year terms. The application for renewal needs to be submitted six months prior to the registration’s expiration date. If the appropriate premium is paid, the trademark may be renewed within six months of the renewal deadline.

Duration

Assuming the Registrar does not raise any objections during the examination and no oppositions are lodged, the processing time from the first submission to registration is roughly six months.
