MONACO

Requirements

A local agent must submit a trademark application to the Patent Office. All you need is an unregistered power of attorney. The initial authority must be relinquished. A domestic registration is not required for foreign candidates.

Procedure

Both a formal examination and a distinctiveness examination are part of the application procedure. Applications are not formally examined for past grades. The entire process, from initial paperwork to registration, takes about three months. Following registration, the trademark appears in black and white in an Intellectual Property Section annex to the quarterly “Journal de Monaco.”

Duration

In Monaco, a trademark registration is effective from the registration date for a period of ten years. Ten-year renewal periods are available for the registration.
