In 1968, the Republic of Maldives, an archipelago to the southwest of Sri Lanka, attained independence.
Common law is used to settle legal disputes. There are no laws pertaining to industrial property yet. The only available defence in their absence is the publication of warning articles in daily newspapers distributed throughout the Maldives that are published from Sri Lanka or the South Indian state of Kerala.

Procedure
- The applicant must get in touch with the Ministry of Economic Development in order to register a trademark in the Maldives.
- Both online and in-person applications are accepted.
- Please ensure that you have submitted all of the necessary documents, which are specified in this page’s Required Documents section, when completing the application.
- The following paperwork will be given to the applicant upon the successful completion of the company’s registration: the Certificate, Registration Letter, Authorised Memorandum and Articles of Association, and Payment Receipt.
