Filing Requirement

  • Depiction of the trademark
  • Specification of the type of trademark
  • Inventory of products and services;
  • The name and address of the applicant
  • Any priority information
  • Payment of the required fee.

When submitting, a certified copy of the Priority Document and the English translation (if not in English) must be sent.

At the time of filing, a simple signed Power of Attorney should be given.

Trademark Renewal

When the opposition time expires, the registration cost must be paid. A trademark is registrable for ten years following the date of filing. Trademarks may be renewed up to ninety days before the end of their existing term of validity. The IP Office will publish a notice in the official bulletin if the renewal fee is not paid by the expiration date. The holder of trademark rights will then have one month from the notice’s publication to pay the renewal fee and any applicable late renewal surcharge.

Duration

The entire trademark registration process, from filing to certificate issuance, takes about 12 to 16 months.
