GREECE

Registration of trademarks Greece is a party to both the European Union and the Madrid Protocol. Registration is required to acquire trademark protection.

Requirements

A local agent is required to submit a trademark application to the “Directorate of Commercial & Industrial Property, Department of Trademark in the Ministry of Development” in Athens. All you need is an unregistered power of attorney. A domestic registration is not required for foreign candidates.

Procedure

There is no search for previous trademarks throughout the application procedure; instead, there is a formal examination and an examination of distinctiveness. The entire process, from initial file to registration, takes about 18 months. The trademark is published in the Government Gazette following registration. The publication will be available to the public for four months following the sixteenth of the month in which it was made available.

Duration

In Greece, a trademark registration is effective from the registration date for a period of ten years. Ten-year renewal periods are available for the registration.
