Registration of trademarks Ghana – Ghana is party to the Stockholm Act on July 14, 1967, the Convention on establishing the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) of July 14, 1967, the World Trade Organization – TRIPS Agreement, and the Paris Convention for the protection of Industrial Property 1883. The Trademark Regulations of 1970 (LI667) and the Trademark Act of 1965 (Act 270) serve as the legal foundation.

Requirements

A local agent must submit a trademark application to the Trademarks Registry. All you need is an unregistered power of attorney.

Trademark Requirement Procedure

After filing, it takes 10–18 months for examination and acceptance. Publication happens nine to twenty-four months after examination. A third party with an interest has two months from the date of publication to file an opposition to the application, which is published in the official gazette or bulletin. Registration takes from 18 to 30 months to finish.

Duration

In Ghana, a trademark registration is effective from the filing date for a period of ten years. Ten-year renewal periods are available for the registration.
