CYPRUS
Requirements
A local agent must submit a trademark application to the Cyprus Trademark Office. The applicant must sign the local agent’s power of attorney.
Procedure
There is no search for previous trademarks throughout the application procedure; instead, there is a formal examination and an examination of distinctiveness. Before the trademark authority issues an office action or registers a trademark, it takes about four to five years. The trademark application is published in the “Official Gazette” following registration. Two months after the trademark’s publication is the opposition period.
Duration
In Cyprus, a trademark registration is effective from the registration date for a period of seven years. For 14 years, the registration is renewed.
