Laws governing trademark registration on national territory have been enacted in Montenegro. Registration does not necessitate an independent assessment of the trademark’s identity and likeness. It suffices to perform the evaluation for adherence to the formal and generic trademark standards.

Requirements

The Institute of Intellectual Property is responsible for the registration of applications in Montenegro. The application should be submitted using the form that the office has provided; additionally, payment of the registration and examination fees is necessary. It could take many months for the application to be verified.

Duration

In Montenegro, a trademark registration is valid for ten (10) years from the date of application and is renewable forever for additional ten-year periods. It is possible to request a trademark renewal up to six (6) months prior to the expiration date.
