ANGOLA
As a “first to file” jurisdiction, Angola requires trademark registration in order to grant rights over a trademark. An unregistered trademark can only be protected under certain extraordinary circumstances. It is necessary to submit trademark applications to the Angolan Institute of Industrial Property (IAPI).
Filing Trademark
A trademark attorney will determine whether Angola grants protection for the proposed trademark. The skilled trademark attorney will then file and pursue the trademark or service mark applications with the Angola Trademarks Registry after the trademark has been verified.
Documents Required
- The applicant’s name, address, and country of origin; a certificate of incorporation that the Angolan Embassy has authorised.
- One copy of the suggested trademark, including word marks in regular font; a list of products and services;
- Classes List; Priority application number; country; and, if applicable, date
- Power of Attorney (needed to be notarized and legalised)
